Spawn of the North (1938)
Lifelong friends Jim Kimmerlee (Henry Fonda) and Tyler Dawson (George Raft) are fishermen in Alaska, but they find themselves in conflict over pirates who steal fish from nets. While Jim, who is successful and owns his own cannery, sides with a group of fishermen intent on defending their livelihood with deadly force, Tyler, on the other hand, has joined up with Russian fishing pirate Red Skain (Akim Tamiroff), despite the protests of his girlfriend, Nicky (Dorothy Lamour).
Starring: Henry Fonda, George Raft, Dorothy Lamour, Akim Tamiroff
Viewer Quote: "One of the very best parts of this film is the footage of Alaska, of the Inuit, and even of the salmon going upstream to their demise. However the best acted performance in this film without a doubt goes to Akim Tamiroff as the Russian fish pirate Red Skane. Skane is a swaggering thug and Tamiroff is perfect. There is lots of action and some surprisingly violent scenes. It is well worth watching, with fine acting and great scenery."
