The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, And Her Lover (1989) Helen Mirren
When ill-bred mobster Albert Spica (Michael Gambon) acquires an upscale French restaurant in London, he dines there nightly, effectively scaring off the clientele with his bad manners. His wife, Georgina (Helen Mirren), is especially disgusted by him, and soon begins an affair with another restaurant guest, Michael (Alan Howard). Despite their efforts to keep it a secret, however, Spica finds out about their trysts, and he plans to exact a terrible revenge.
Food, color coding, sex, murder, torture and cannibalism are the exotic fare in this beautifully filmed but brutally uncompromising modern fable. Look for a young Tim Roth in a minor role. Helen Mirren has never been LOVELIER nor sexier than in this film. This is an unforgettable film!
Starring: Richard Bohringer, Helen Mirren, Michael Gambon
Viewer Quote: "Imagine the universe as a restaurant. The parking lot is the world. The kitchen is purgatory. The ladies's room is heaven. The dining room is hell. Hell is ruled over by Albert Spica, (Satan) excellently played by Michael Gobon. This is a film is refined, subtle, extremely sensual and intelligent."
