Based on the true story of writer, James Kirkwood Jr. and his mother (James Kirkwood wrote the award winning book, ,A Chorus Line, the Musical,, which was later adapted to the Broadway, ,A Chorus Line,):  Marguerite Sydney (Elizabeth Taylor) is a celebrated Hollywood star attempting a comeback after a stay in a mental hospital, as well as trying to re-establish a relationship with her teenage son, and risking a romance with a mysterious stranger.
