The rating of movies is vital to success, and audiences around the world decide on the feedback given by critics. The execution of a movie may not impress the critics, and that can damage its reputation. and it can receive negative reviews and ratings by independent service like IMDb that incorporates a database regarding movies and rates it. The following are the worst-rated movies ever made.

1)  Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959), no rating

It is a sci-fi movie directed, written, produced, and edited by Ed Wood. The execution and plot are so bad that it is not even rated by IMDb. Movie critics declared it as the worst movie ever made and awarded it with the worst director and worst film awards. Its bad reputation made it a 'so-bad-it's-good' movie and caused it to gain a cult following. The cast of the movie includes Gregory Walcott as Jeff Trent, Mona McKinnon as Paula Trent, Maila Nurmi as Vampira, Tor Johnson as Inspector Daniel Clay, and features guest stars like Bela Lugosi as the Old Man/Ghoul Man, Tom Keene as Col. Tom Edwards, and Lyle Talbot as Gen. Roberts. The plot of the movie depicts an invasion from outer space to prevent mankind from creating a deadly weapon that could destroy the universe. 

2)  The Garbage Pail Kids Movie (1987), 2.6 rating

In the list of worst-rated movies, The Garbage Pail Kids ranks at the top. It is a classic live-action movie produced, directed, and co-written by Rod Amateau. It is an adaptation of a popular trading card series of the same name. Upon release, critics considered it one of the worst movies ever made and it was nominated for Worst New Star and Worst Original Song awards. The movie stars dwarf actors in animatronic costumes to showcase the live animation, including Phil Fondacaro as Greaser Greg, Debbie Lee Carrington as Valerie Vomit, Kevin Thompson as Ali Gator, Robert Bell as Foul Phil, Larry Green as Nat Nerd, Arturo Gil as Windy Winston, Sue Rossitto as Messy Tessie and in other casts it has Anthony Newley as Captain Manzini, Mackenzie Astin as Dodger, and Katie Barberi as Tangerine. The plot of the movie is that the garbage pail kids are held captive in a can by the owner of an antiques shop.  They have gross and abnormal habits (i.e., Valerie Vomit can throw up on command).  They accidentally freed from the can when Dodger, a bullied young man, knocks over the can, and the Garbage Pail kids go on to reek havoc.

3)  Reefer Madness (1936), 3.8 rating

The movie was originally made to spread awareness and educate people particularly parents about the cons and dangers of drugs. It is from the classic era, directed by Louis J. Gasnier. Later the rights were purchased by Dwain Esper who distributed it under the exploitation circuit and benefited from moral guidance through the 1940s and 50s. Today, it is still considered, by the critcs, to be one of the worst movies ever made. The cast of the movie features Dave O'Brien as Ralph Wiley, Dorothy Short as Mary Lane, Kenneth Craig as Bill Harper, Carleton Young as Jack Perry, and Lillian Miles as Blanche. The plot is about a couple of high-school teenagers who get involved in the drug business and how their lives change for the worst and the repercussions they must face for the rest of their lives.

4)  Jack and Jill (2011), 3.3 rating

Jack and Jill is another 'worst movie made'.  It is comedy, and surprisingly, includes a top star cast.  It is directed by Dennis Dugan and features Adam Sandler as Jack and Jill, Katie Holmes as Erin Sadelstein and Al Pacino as himself. It was the first movie to win in all the categories of worst movie awards including Worst Actor, Worst Actress, and Worst Picture. The plot of the movie is about the bitter relationship between the twins' Jack and Jill played by Adam Sandler. Jack is an advertising executive and needs to cast Al Pacino who develops a crush on his sister, Jill. Jack hates Thanksgiving because it mean the annual visit of his sister but now he needs her to be around and help him cast Al Pacino. Despite to box office casting in the movie, it did not live up to the hype and was declared as one of the worst movies ever made.

5)  Freddy Got Fingered (2001), 4.6 rating

It is a comic attempt to showcase the struggles of a cartoonist. The movie is directed and co-written by Tom Green and it features Tom Green as Gordon Brody, Rip Torn as Jim Brody, Marisa Coughlan as Betty Menge, Eddie Kaye Thomas as Freddy Brody, and Julie Hagerty as Julie Brody. The movie was criticized as one of the worst movies ever made and won 5 Golden Raspberry Awards (Worst movie awards) from 8 nominations. The plot of the movie shows a bitter relationship between a father, Jim, and his son, Gordon, who is a struggling cartoonist and wants to pursue his dreams by making an animated series. Jim is disappointed in Gordon and continually asks him to find a real job and settle down.   But inspired by Betty, bound to be a girlfriend of Gordon, allows him to create an animated series depicting his relationship with his father. The series becomes popular and the relationship is restored among them. 

6)  Titanic: The Legend Goes On (2000), 1.0 rating

It is an animated movie produced in Spanish-Italian and later dubbed in English. It is directed and written by Camillo Teti. This  movie depicts adventures during the sinking of Titanic and a plight of a poor girl, Angelica, treated as a servant by her step-mother in quest of love which she finds in William, an upper-class passenger along with the animated characters and their sub-plots. The voice-over artists include Lisa Russo – Angelica, Mark Thompson-Ashworth – William, Caroline Yung – Maxie the Mouse / Swedish Mouse, Gregory Snegoff – Fritz / Geoffrey, Giselle Matthews – Gertrude, Silva Benton – Bernice, and Bianca Alessandra Ara – Hortense. 

7)  Saving Christmas (2014), rating 0

This is a movie created to re-establish the true meaning of Christmas with a touch of humor. It is directed, co-produced, and co-written by Darren Doane. The attempt of educating people with comedy narrative was not appreciated by the critics and they labeled it as one of the worst movies ever made, and it received the lowest rating on the IMDb, 0. The movie stars Kirk Cameron as Kirk, Darren Doane as Christian White, Bridgette Ridenour as Kirk's sister, David Shannon as Diondre, Raphi Henly as a conspiracy theorist, and Ben Kientz as St. Nick. The movie explains the meaning of Christmas as Darren sees it as a holiday and Kirk tries to educate him and the audience through biblical evidence of Christ, in the term Christmas.

Conclusion

Appreciation and criticism are the only factors that predict the fortune of the movie. For a movie to be successful and acknowledged it has to check all the boxes in the critic’s book to avoid the tag of the worst-rated movie. Even the term 'worst movie ever made' can contribute to the popularity of a movie.
