The Long Duel (1967) Yul Brynner, Trevor Howard
Cruel Superintendent Stafford of the United Provinces Police (Harry Andrews), has his men arrest an entire tribe on vague allegations of poaching and theft in British India. Their leader, Sultan (Yul Brynner), father of a young boy, Munnu, whose wife, Tara, is expecting their second child, is also arrested and held in a cell with criminals in Fort Najibabad. Sultan, Tara, and many others manage to break out, with tragic consequences. Stafford is a hopeless imperialist who knows only one way to govern and that by force, while honorable British policeman, Freddy Young (Trevor Howard) tries the other way: dialogue and understanding. Sultan, with the help of his men, decides to revolt against the oppressive British, leading to bitter battles and a final showdown.

Viewer Quote: "This film bulges with emotion that keeps coming at you, as action and adventures are maintained throughout. Brynner plays his role with true sensitivity, and Trevor Howard and Harry Andrews also contribute strong performances. Additional merits of the film is the overwhelming splendor of the sweeping landscape scenes catching the wilderness of the Himalayas, and the music, which underlines and augments the romantic character of the film. There are many moments of heart and poignancy which make this film worth a watch.
